By L. G. ISIIAELS, G. E. DELORY, L. HNATIUK AND E. FRIESEN T HE SERUM activity of phosphohexose isonsserase, the enszyme faeilitatinsg the coisversions of glucose-6-phosphate to fructose-6-plsosphate, has recetstly conse insto use as an inidex of tumor growth and nsetastatic disease. Bodanssky was able to demonsstrate increased serum isomerase activity ins nsetastatic carcinsonsa of breast amsd prostate.’3 Subsequently, we reported imicreased sem unss isonsserase activity in chronic myelocytic leukensia.4 Ins contrast to this, the serum of patiensts with chronic lymphocytic leukemia had values withims the isormal ransge. At that time, it w’as postulated that the inscreased isomerase might arise from either inencased fornsation by, or release from, cells of the gransulocytic series. We have since attempted to elucidate the source ansd mechanism of the raised serum isomerase in the chronic nsyelocytic leukensia group. This was done by followinsg the serum isomerase levels over long periods of time in cases of chromsic myelocytic leukensia, by estinsating the emszynse activity ins separated leukocytes, and by following the etizyme activity its dogs with imsduced leukocytosis atsd leukopensia.

Is There Correlation between Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria and Elevated Serum IgE? A Pilot Study
Background: The etiology of urticaria is recognized only in a minority of cases. Allergies to a wide variety of agents have been suspected, as well as hyper reactivity to food additives or drugs. Recently, autoimmune reaction to immunoglobulin E (IgE) and later to high-affinity IgE receptors on mast cells has been reported. The aim of this study was to show elevated serum IgE levels in the pati...

By M. C. BLANCHAER, P. T. GREEN, J. P. MACLEAN AND M. J. HOLLENBERG W IDE ACCEPTANCE of serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase estimations1 for the detection of myocardial infarction has stimulated interest in the possible diagnostic uses of other plasma enzymes, including lactic acid dehydrogenase ( LD ) and phosphohexose isomerase ( PHI ) . Both of these enzymes play a role in the intracellu...
متن کاملBIRC5 Gene Disruption via CRISPR/Cas9n Platform Suppress Acute Myelocytic Leukemia Progression
Background: Acute myelocytic leukemia (AML) is a clonal malignancy resulting from the accumulation of genetic abnormalities in the cells. Human baculoviral inhibitor of apoptosis repeat-containing 5 (BIRC5), encodes survivin, is one of only a handful of genes that is differentially over-expressed in numerous malignant diseases including AML. Methods: The BIRC5 was silenced permanently in two AM...
متن کاملFetal erythropoiesis in juvenile chronic myelocytic leukemia.
Red cell enzymes, 2,3-diphosphoglycerate (2,3-DPG) and adenosine triphosphate (ATP), were evaluated in a 23-mo-old boy with juvenile chronic myelocytic leukemia (JCML) at the onset of his illness and 6 mo later during the accelerated phase. The activities of the age-dependent red cell enzymes, hexokinase, aldolase, pyruvate kinase, and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, were elevated, as were t...
متن کاملSerum Lipid Profile Alterations in Acute Leukemia Before and After Chemotherapy
Background: Serum lipids abnormalities have been observed in various forms of cancers including acute leukemia. Investigators report decreased total cholesterol and HDL, and elevated triglyceride in leukemic patients. Limited studies had been performed to discover the correlation between abnormal lipids profile and disease activity in leukemic patients in Iran. This study was done to evaluate t...
